The Apostle Paul tells us that "we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). While we are saved by grace and not by works, Paul makes it clear that God has a purpose for each of His children and has given us the tools or "gifts" to carry that purpose out.
 
A spiritual gift is a supernatural ability given by the Holy Spirit to a person at the moment of his or her salvation. Every believer has been given at least one gift to be used to glorify God and help build His church. Romans 12, I Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4 are key passages concerning spiritual gifts.
